General requirements for issuing residence permits in Austria 

 

The residence permit is a document that allows one to reside in a country. The requirements for obtaining an Austrian residence permit vary from one person to another depending on whether one is applying for the permit as a financially independent individual, for employment, study purposes at a university, or family reunification.

 

Basic documents required when applying for an Austrian residence permit:

 

Valid international passport

Birth certificate

Photograph taken less than 6 months (at time of application) which should have a  45×35 mm specification

Proof of health insurance

Possible proof of secure livelihood

A clean criminal record

 

Residence permit for financially independent people

 

Medical insurance – This is one of the major requirements needed when applying for residence permit or before one can make any rental agreement.

35×45 mm photographs that are not older than 6 months

A clear criminal record

Bank statement

A1 and above German language proficiency

Translated and certified documents into the German language

80 euros when submitting the documents
